Savannah Chrisley Says Mom Julie Now 'Looks Different in Her Eyes' After Tough Prison Experience

Published: July 2, 2025

Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley recently appeared as guests on their daughter Savannah's podcast, "Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley," where they opened up about their time in federal prison.

Savannah, 27, noted that her mother had a harder time in prison than her father, saying, "Mom had to go through things that you never had to." Julie recalled serving her time for bank and wire fraud, tax evasion, and conspiracy at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Ky., where she faced harsh conditions, including a lack of air conditioning.

Julie described the prison as a "building that was 100 years old that had no air conditioning," which made the temperatures in the winter cold and in the summer, hot, reaching "between 110 and 120 degrees." Todd referred to his wife's situation as a "mortal hell."

Todd, on the other hand, experienced a week where the air conditioning stopped working at the Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida. He claimed to have called Savannah on the phone to report the issue, which led to the installation of two new air conditioning units the next day.

Savannah noted that her mother looks different in her eyes since her release from prison, saying, "Now when you look at mom, she just looks different in her eyes."

The family also discussed Julie's experience of being allegedly locked in a prison cafeteria by a correctional officer. Todd and Julie were in federal custody since January 2023 and were released on May 28 after receiving pardons from President Donald Trump.
